Case study – Sky News

Sky-News-Radio-LogoSky News Radio supplies the national and international news, sport, business and entertainment news to almost every commercial radio station in the UK.

The service began in 1999, and received a significant boost in 2010 when it won the contract to supply the IRN network of radio stations. More than 280 stations make up the network, including well-known brands such as Absolute Radio, Capital, Classic, Heart, Magic, Real, Smooth and talkSPORT, and between them they have a weekly audience of nearly 34 million.

This was no ordinary radio project for Clyde to work on as the studios were to be operated by staff better known as journalists than presenters and the news room systems were orientated to existing TV rather that radio operations. It was clear that number one consideration had to be ease of use in the fast moving 24 /7 news environment and the complex integration of TV and radio systems had to be invisible to the operator.

Working closely with in-house engineers at Sky, Clyde worked on a solution that would present a clean easy to use layout and give every operator their own settings that could be accessed instantly. The Synergy control surfaces were the perfect solution while TAKFAS application software seamlessly linked the Klotz router and Netia software to facilitate the link to TV news systems.

As confirmation of the projects success Clyde has delivered additional facilities and consulted on a major technical expansion since the initial installation.
